Microsoft Surface 3 launched for $499 with Intel Atom X7

Microsoft has announced the release of its latest device the Microsoft Surface3 which is the thinner, lighter and smaller version of the earlier released Surface Pro 3.The Surface 3 comes with a 10.8 inch Full HD dispaly having 1920 x 1280 pixels resolution having an aspect ratio of 3:2. The surface 3 is powered by Intel Atom X7-Z8700 Quad Core chipset which clocks at 1.6GHz per core which is pretty impressive and can turbo boost up to 2.4 GHz when more processing power is required which makes it lag free and efficient.

The powerful CPU is supported by 2GB of RAM and has an internal storage of 64GB which can be further expanded using microSD card support. Coming to software aspect the device runs on full version 64-bit Windows 8.1 which will be upgraded to Windows 10 once it is released like the option available for Windows PC’s.

The Surface 3 comes with a 8MP Primary and a 3.5MP secondary camera which is decent. Along with the processing power the basic connectivity features likeWi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v4.0, full size USB 3.0 port, a mini Display port to activate external display are available.

The device can run with 10 hours of battery life with continuous video playback, and comes with a 13W charger which can be used to charge the device faster and the device can also be charged with your mobile phone charger. For making the device viewable and usable at any angle the surface 3 comes with a built-in kickstand made of Magnesium Alloy material which gives it strength and also a good look to go with your Surface 3. The device will come equipped with one year free Office 365 subscription, which including full versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote as well as 1 TB of OneDrive storage.

Coming to Pricing of the device the Surface 3 is available in two models:

  • Surface 3 with 2GB RAM and 64 GB built-in storage is available at $499 (LTE Enabled $599)
  • Surface 3 with 4GB RAM and 128 GB built-in storage is available at $599 (LTE Enabled $699)

The same devices are available in UK at 2GB RAM/64GB/non LTE models priced at £419.99. And £499.99 for the 4GB RAM/128GB/non LTE model. thed evices will be made available in US from April 1st and can be purchased from April 5th. Coming to the availability of Surface 3 in UK it will be from May 7th.
