WhatsApp, the Facebook owned Instant Messaging platform has launched a desktop app for Windows and Mac users. WhatsApp has over a billion users for their application which was restricted to Smartphones with the Application until the WhatsApp web version was announced around 15 months ago.
The Desktop App for WhatsApp has similar functionality to the web version and it is said to be an extension of the phone version on your Windows or Mac desktop. If you have been using WhatsApp web the App will be similar to it in functionality as it will showing the conversations and messages from your mobile device. If you are someone like me who uses laptop or System almost all day and gets WhatsApp messages on various groups all day long, to take out phone for every message brings down efficiency and a lot of time is wasted, with WhatsApp web was pretty useful and with this new WhatsApp Desktop App for Windows and Mac you can now use it without having to keep a tap on your browser always on.
How to Set up WhatsApp desktop App for Windows and Mac:
Note: WhatsApp Desktop App is supported by Windows 8 or Later and in Mac OS X 10.9 or later
Go to Whatsapp official website (https://www.whatsapp.com/download/) and download the App for your Windows or Mac desktop
Install the WhatsApp desktop app on your Windows or Mac desktop
After Installation the App will ask you to scan the QR code shown in App from your Smartphone
How to scan QR code in Android Smartphone – Open WhatsApp -> tap on the dot icon on the top right corner of the app -> From the list tap on WhatsApp Web -> Now you will have to position the camera of your phone to scan the QR code on WhatsApp Desktop application
How to scan QR code in iPhone – Open WhatsApp -> Go to settings -> tap on WhatsApp Web and scan the QR code
How to Scan QR code in Windows phone – Open WhatsApp -> Go to Menu -> Tap on WhatsApp Web -> Scan the QR code
How to Scan QR code in Blackberry phone – Open WhatsApp -> Go to Chats -> Tap on Menu Key -> Tap on WhatsApp Web -> Scan QR code in case of Blackberry 10 users after launching WhatsApp -> Swipe down from top of the display -> Tap on WhatsApp Web -> Scan QR code
Position your device camera to make sure that the QR code is positioned between the box given.
Once the QR Code is scanned your WhatsApp account will be synced with the WhatsApp Desktop App in your Windows or Mac and your chats, contacts and calls will be mirrored on the desktop version. It is similar to the procedure followed to Sync WhatsApp web.
Note: For the Sync to be completed and to keep receiving and sending messages you need to make sure that your smartphone is connected to the internet either by Mobile data connection of WiFi network.
How to Log out of WhatsApp desktop App for Windows and Mac:
To Log out from the WhatsApp desktop App you need to log out from the App by going to the Menu -> Click on Log Out. In case you are away from the Desktop and forgot to log out, you can log out from your WhatsApp smartphone application as well. You have to go to WhatsApp web in your smartphone and you will get a message showing when you were last active -> tap on Log out from all computers -> Tap on Log out to successfully log out your account in all devices.
