It has been an exciting day for the Entry level smartphone segment with the launch of two new devices – one from Micromax, the Bharat 5 and the other from Xiaomi, Redmi 5A both of which are devices supporting 4G VoLTE. The Xiaomi Redmi 5A is priced at Rs. 4,999 for the 2GB RAM with 16GB internal storage, the Bharat 5 on the other hand is priced at Rs. 5,555 and the main USP of the device is the huge battery – 5000mAh battery which is said to give 500 hours of standby time.
So if you are in the market for an entry level 4G VoLTE supporting smartphone, you are up for some confusion to choose between the Redmi 5A vs the Micromax Bharat 5 both of which are priced competitively for the price. Both the devices come with HD resolution displays – 1280 x 720 pixels resolution, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A sports a 5-inch display while the Bharat 5 sports a 5.2-inch HD resolution display. From the short time in which we used both the devices, the Redmi 5A was much smoother and the MIUI 9 skin gives the devices a smooth performance.
Micromax Bharat 5 comes with a 5MP auto-focus camera with f/2.2 aperture and LED flash, it comes with software features like panorama, timelapse, beauty mode etc. It also sports a 5MP front-facing camera with wide-angle lens and beauty mode.
The Redmi 5A comes with a 13MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and LED flash having features like Face Recognition, real-time filters, HDR mode etc. The front camera is a 5MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture having face recognition and Selfiecountdown as well.
The Bharat 5 comes with a huge 5000mAh battery which is its main USP, the company promices that it gives 500 hours of standby time. The Redmi 5A on the other hand sports a 3000mAh battery which is said to give 190 hours of standby time.
The Bharat 5 comes with OTG support making it possible to act as a powerbank, you can charge other devices with Bharat 5. With the huge battery and reverse cahrging option, Bharat 5 is the outright winner in the battery segment.
Price and Availability:
The Xiaomi Redmi 5A costs Rs 4,999 for the 2GB RAM variant and Rs 6,999 for the 3GB RAM and 32GB model. The actual price of the 2GB model is Rs 5,999 and the Rs 4,999 is the discounted price for the first 50 lakh units. It will be available on Flipkart and Mi.com/in from December 7th.
The Bharat 5 is priced at Rs 5,555. There is a launch offer from Vodafone where buyers will get 50GB free data on any new or existing Vodafone number. The operator offers 10GB free data every month for five months. It will be available across the country in Retail stores.
Which is better – Micromax Bharat 5 or Redmi 5A?
Apart from having a bigger battery and a slightly bigger battery, the Micromax 5 looses to the Redmi 5A in terms of performance, camera, hardware, RAM, Storage and pricing. On the whole the Redmi 5A is a value for money device which covers all aspects of being a smartphone. If you are in for a entry level device with just good battery back up you can go for the Micromax Bharat 5, but if you want a whole package the REdmi 5A is the one for you.
