Xiaomi has announced their latest flagships smartphones, the Mi 8 at an event in China and alongside has announced the Mi 8 Explorer Edition which has some additional features which will be explained later on in this post. The Mi 8 comes with a 6.21-inch FHD+ AMOLED display and comes with an impressive screen to body ratio or 88.5%, the back panel is glass and has four curved glass body with 7 series aluminum frame. As seen earlier Xiaomi has copied from the iPhone X both on the front and the rear of the device in terms of the Rear camera placement.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor and Adreno 630 GPU with 6GB and 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM with storage options of 64GB / 128GB and 256GB available. The device runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 9 out of the box and will be upgraded to MIUI 10 shortly. There are dual 12MP rear cameras with one having a Sony IMX363 sensor with 1.4 um pixel size and OIS, Dual Pixel auto focus and the secondary sensor being a 12MP for AI portraits and AI scene recognition. There is a 20MP front facing camera with AI portrait selfies having real-time background blur, AI Studio Light Effect and has face unlock feature. It is said to read 4096 facial points and can unlock even in dark.

What are the Differences between MI 8 vs MI 8 Explorer Edition?
The Mi 8 Explorer edition was launched along side the Mi 8 which comes with a pressure sensitive in-display fingerprint sensor with a dedicated pressure sensor to activate unlocking more quickly with a Synaptics FS9500 Clear ID family of optical in-display fingerprint sensor directly in the OLED touchscreen. The Back Panel is Clear Glass and the internals can be seen which is quite interesting and was seen in the latest HTC flagship.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 is priced at 2699 yuan for the 6GB / 64GB storage variant while the 128GB variant is priced at 2999 yuan which is approx Rs. 31,500 and the 256GB variant is priced at 3299 yuan which is approx Rs. 34,700. The Mi 8 Explorer Edition is priced at 3699 yuan which is approximately Rs. 39,000 and comes in 8GB and 256GB storage variant only. Both the smartphones will be available from June 5th in China. The availability and launch of the Mi 8 and Mi 8 Explorer edition is not revealed as of today in India or other countries.
