Xiaomi has recently launched their latest budget level smartphone, the Redmi 4 in India at a price starting from Rs. 6,999 earlier this week. The Redmi 4 competes with another Xiaomi smartphone, the Redmi 4A (Redmi 4 vs Redmi 4A)which was launched in India couple of months back, while it was launched in China last year. If you look at the pricing and the overall specifications of both the devices, you will be confused as I was when the Redmi 4 was launched. Was wondering why would Xiaomi launch two devices in a similar price range just couple of months apart to compete against each other.

What are the Differences between Redmi 4 and Redmi 4A:

Both the devices are quite different in the Design aspect, with the Redmi 4 with a metal body gives a more premium feel and finish as compared to the Redmi 4A which has a plastic body. The device borders are more rounded and make it even more comfortable to hold in hand. On the back of the device the camera is placed similarly but the antenna band is slightly lowered which is now below the camera and not in line with it. There is obviously the Fningerprint sensor in the middle which is not available in the Redmi 4A.

The Redmi 4 comes with 2.5D curved glass on top of the display which is absent in the Redmi 4A.

The Redmi 4 is powered by a Snapdragon 435, Octa-core processor, Adreno 505 GPU in comparison to the Snapdragon 425, Quad-core processor, Adreno 308 GPU. Making the Redmi 4 more powerful.

The Redmi 4 comes with a higher capacity battery – 4100mAh as compared to the 3120mAh battery in the Redmi 4A.

So if the Redmi 4 better than Redmi 4A for the extra Rs. 1000??

With the Redmi 4A at Rs. 5,999 while the Redmi 4 at Rs. 6,999 for the 2GB RAM variant. The extra 1k is well worth it, if you compare the overall device in terms of improved performance, better build and aesthetics and higher battery life.
