How to pay for Apps in Google Play store using Vodafone, Idea and Airtel pre paid or post paid accounts

Purchasing Apps from Google Play Store was a difficult task for Indians in particular as it required net banking, credit card or debit card which was not available for many users and hence users would restrict to using free apps. Earlier last year in May, Google Play Store started allowing carrier billing option for Idea customers where users could purchase Apps from Play store with the help of their pre-paid or post-paid account.

The same carrier billing option has been now extended to Vodafone and Airtel customers as well. With this users can purchase Apps, games, and books from Google Play. Google Play had introduced Net Banking option to its Indian store back in November last year and now with this introduction, it will be more easy for users to purchase apps without the need for a Credit card or select debit cards.

How to Purchase Apps in Google Play using Airtel, Vodafone, Idea carrier billing:

Note: This feature is being seen for only select prepaid users at the moment and most of the post paid users are seeing this option. Even the Google Play support page for payments is not yet updated to show Airtel and Vodafone as the supported carriers and only lists Idea.

  • Launch Google Play Store App in your Android device
  • Now tap on any App which you want to purchase
  • Now tap on the Buy option which will get a pop-up window
  • Tap on Continue which will take you to the Payment methods option
  • Tap on the option “Use Vodafone billing” or “Use Airtel Billing” or “Use Idea billing” which will bill your network provider
  • If you are paying using a pre-paid account make sure that you have enough balance in your account and in case of a postpaid account you haven’t exceeded the monthly spending limit

After you purchase an App through your carrier account, the charges will be seen in your carrier account after 15 minutes as mentioned in the Google Play support page. If you are not able to view the option in your account which we have net received on our Airtel postpaid account but got it in Vodafone account wait for the company to start rolling out the update.
