NVIDIA is expanding their affordable GPU segment with two new GPUs (GTX 1070 and GTX 1080) entering the market being joined by their latest GPU the GTX 1060. The company has mentioned that this is an affordable GPU with GTX 980 level of performance having twice the energy efficiency in VR which is becoming the norm now. It uses the new smaller chip design which uses less power and emits less heat, which helps in enabling higher core clock speed in turn improving performance.
The GPU is the first of its kind to support GDDR5X memory which helps in improving higher memory bandwidth and larger memory sizes. It comes with support for DirectX 12, Vulkan graphics APIs. It is said to consume just 120 watts of power which is quite impressive.
The GPU comes with a Memory Type- Speed 8 Gbps having Boost clock of 1708 MHz and memory bandwidth of 192GB/sec. It is manufactured using TSMC 16nm technology and this keeps the size small taking help of the company’s new Pascal architecture. Coming to the performance when compared to its competitior the GTX 980, the GTX 1060 comes closer its performance which is quite impressive comsidering the price point.
The GTX 1060 will be launched on July 19th officially and available in India from the same date as well. The GTX 1060 is priced at $249 which is Rs. 16,000 approximately and it is a good buy considering what is at offer.
