With the modular phone concept taking off in a big way this year we are seeing that after LG G5 it is the turn of Motorola to launch a modular smartphone, the Moto Z and the Moto Z Force which come with additional accessories named “Moto Mods”. These are snap on type of accessories which will not alter the shape of the device much in terms of the height and width but only alters the thickness of the device.
These accessories are called Moto Mods as they not only modify the device in looks but also in functionality. So let us look at what features are being provided by Motorola in the Mods. There are four Moto Mods which have been revealed yesterday and the company promises to come out with more as they near the launch date of the Moto Z and Moto Z Force.
Power Pack: These are additional battery packs which snap onto the back of the Moto Z and Moto Z Force. It is called as Incipio OFFGRID Power Pack which gives up to 22 hours of extra battery life. And it brings wireless charging to the device as well. There are also the Kate Spade Now York Powerpack and TUMI Power Packs available.
JBL SoundBoost Speaker: This is a mod which brings you additional speakers to your Moto Z and Moto Z Force, it comes with its own battery and a kickstand to turn your smartphone into a portable speaker. It is said to give 10 hours of backup with its own speaker system without touching the phone’s battery.
Moto Insta Share Projector: This is one of the most exciting mods for me, you can turn your Moto Z into a portable projector. This comes with its own built-in battery which gives 1 hours of backup along with a kickstand to project a 70-inch screen on any wall.
Moto Style Shell: Last but not the least, this is the more popular of the lot which lets you customize your device based on your choice.
It will be interesting to see how efficient these snap on mods will be as these are fixed to the device magnetically and how strong the bond is in day to day life, will be seen when they are launched.
