IRCTC launches pay-on-delivery services for booking train tickets

IRCTC has been evolving on a regular basis and one such initiative taken by Railways to help travelers to book tickets on their own without going to the brokers is their new PoD or pay-on-delivery service which allows passengers to pay for the ticket after the ticket is delivered, it is similar to Cash on delivery service being offered by e-commerce sites, where you can book online and pay using card or cash after the product is delivered.

This PoD service can be used through the website and mobile app of IRCTC which will be giving travelers the option to opt for Pay-on-delivery while booking the tickets. This is a great addition to the complicated booking system by Indian Railways which will make life easier for travelers, who are now well versed with online booking and cash on delivery model thanks to the various e-commerce websites.

The customer needs to do a one-time registration for availing PoD as a payment option, which involves giving either Aadhaar Card or PAN card details to enable this option.

What are the charges for IRCTC Pay-on-delivery service?

If you book using the Pay-on-delivery service on IRCTC website or App, you will be charged a fee of Rs. 90 plus sales tax for transaction below Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 120 plus service tax for transactions over Rs. 5,000.

IRCTC has also mentioned that users will be levied a cancellation and delivery charge in case of refusal or cancellation before delivery of the tickets. It is a great initiative which can help attract many users to book tickets online instead of standing in long ques at the reservation counters. Earlier users needed a Debit or credit card or any online payment apps for booking a ticket which encouraged booking agents.  I have been personally using the new IRCTC website and found it very useful and easy to use, this addition will make it easier for the masses to book tickets and pay in cash on delivery.
