How to Solve or Fix Unknown Error code during Application Install – Error 505 in Play Store

After the release of the Android Lollipop update there is a new Error which has surfaced after devices have installed Android Lollipop 5.0 and 5.0.1 and trying to install applications are facing this Error in case of certain Apps only and not all Apps. Some of the Apps mentioned by users are We Chat, Adobe Air 15, State Bank of India, ITV player App, Weather app etc.

How to solve or fix error 505 while application install after lollipop update

Causes or Reason for Error 505 while installing Apps in Android devices:

There is no sure shot fix or solution to this Error as the reason behind the error is not confirmed yet, which some are saying is the problem with app developers as it might not have to been updated to work in Lollipop 5.0.1

Some say it is because of the presence of an APK file version or any files remaining from the old app in your device after Installing the Lollipop update.

So looking at the causes which are being mentioned above we have some fixes for the Error 505 which are tried and tested, these steps worked and not useful in some devices so try them and do let us know which one worked for you and if you have done anything different to make it work.

Clear Cache and Data in Google Store:

This solution was helpful in cases where there were remnants of the earlier apps in your device even after the Installation of Android Lollipop. You have to Go to Settings -> Apps -> Google Play Store -> Tap on Clear Cache and then Clear Data.

Now go back to Play Store and try installing the application to see it has done the trick if the same Error is being shown then try the next Step.

Remove or Uninstall App by Entering into Guest Account:

Sometimes the App remains in your Guest account and is not seen or hidden in your main account, this can lead to the problem of facing Error 505 while installing the particular application.

Enter into Guest Account on your Android device and then from there check if the application is seen and try to Uninstall the application by going into the Settings > Apps > and then Uninstalling it or by going into Play Store and doing it.

Uninstall ROM Toolbox and Terminal Emulator:

Terminal Emulator is used to install Flash   seems to be the core of the problem in devices which are having this Emulator installed and uninstalling this helped fix this Error in most of the devices, so if you are the one having Terminal Emulator then you need to uninstall it to get rid of the Error 505.

In some cases where Terminal Emulator was in ROM Toolbox this Error has occurred and to get rid of it you have to Uninstall ROM toolbox and then install terminal emulator and then install ROM toolbox separately. This trick has worked for some users and you can try it out as well.

Remove existing APK file from Data folder:

Even if you have unistalled the application sometimes there is an APK file left in your Data folder which has to be removed manually to help fix this Error. You can do that by locating the concerned APK file the Files -> Data -> App folder and deleting it.

This problem occurs when you have not properly done Factory Reset of your device while updating from Kitkat to Lollipop. You can also try the Android Debug Bridge technique to uninstall apps which are just hidden and not uninstalled from your device and then later install the app from play sotre.

Factory reset your device as the last option:

This is the last option which is left after trying all the above mentioned tricks,  factory reset will remove all the existing data from your device and then start your device as it came out of the box. You must Back up all your data before going for the Factory reset or else you might loose all your data like photos, chats, videos etc form your device.
