There has been an issue with WhatsApp on Xiaomi devices running on MIUI v6 where users are reporting missing contacts from Whatsapp. One thing which has to be first checked is whether the Contacts and numbers are seen in Contacts App or not. If contacts are present in the contacts App but not seen in WhatsApp it might be a problem with App permissions which we will be showing how to fix it. This problem has been seen in the Redmi series and even the Flagship devices like the Mi4, Mi 4i, Mi 4c, Redmi Note series etc.
In case the Contacts are missing from the Contacts App as well, it is most likely a problem with the storage where the contacts have been saved in. In the first case where the Contacts are seen in the Contacts App but missing in WhatsApp you can follow the steps below to fix it.
How to fix Contacts missing from WhatsApp in MIUI6:
The main issue is with the App and the Security permissions which are denying WhatsApp from accessing Contacts which is giving rise to this problem. You might have unknowingly selected Deny permission to access Contacts on initial Set up when you get the message “WhatsApp is trying to read your contacts”, you will be facing this problem to fix it follow the below mentioned steps.
Go to Settings and then scroll to locate the Security App
Tap on Permissions in the list of apps to launch it
You need to once again tap on Permissions which will take you to the Apps tab
Scroll to find the WhatsApp Application and tap on it to open it
From the options available tap on Read your Contacts and then tap on Accept.
This will now let WhatsApp application to access the Contacts stored in your device. WhatsApp will not directly access the contacts most of the time after the above mentioned steps are followed. You need to Close the WhatsApp Application and then launch it again, go to Contacts option -> tap on Menu -> and tap on Refresh. The App will now access all the contacts which will be shown in the Contacts list in WhatsApp.
