How to Fix or Solve “Gboard has Stopped Working” Error

There are numerous keyboard or typing apps available in Play Store or App Store for iOS, one of the best is Gboard from Google which has all the features useful in making typing hassle free. Gboard comes integrated with lots of features directly related to Google like Google search, maps, translate etc which can be accessed from the Keyboard itself making life easier for you. Many users have been complaining that they are facing an Error while using Gboard – “Gboard has Stopped Working” Error while using Gboard on their iOS or Android smartphone.

The Fix is quite simple and there are a couple of solutions to this Error, follow each step one after the other to check which one works for you.

How to Fix or Solve Gboard has stopped Error

Method 1 – Restart device:

Most of the times the simplest of the methods work, Restart or Reboot your Device and in the process of Restarting the device the Application refreshes itself and might fix any small glitch which might have been the reason for this Error.

To Restart your Device – Press and Hold the Power Botton on your smartphone -> you will be seeing the options “Restart or Reboot” and “Power Off”. Tap on Restart or Reboot and your device restarts and you can now check whether the Error is popping up again or not.

Method 2 – Force Stop Gboard App:

Force Stopping the Application and Relaunching it can sometimes fix the Error, it is better to try this before attempting to Uninstall and Install the Application again. Follow the Steps mentioned below to Force Stop an Application.

  • Go to Settings
  • Now scroll through the list and tap on Apps or Applications
  • From the list of Apps, open Gboard
  • Here you need to tap on Force Stop button and tap on OK to confirm
  • Now go back to your home screen and try using the Keyboard, the error might get fixed once the app relaunches

Method 3 – Set Gboard as Primary or Current Keyboard:

Sometimes Keyboard selection changes and other keyboards like Swiftkey or native keyboards are activated. You need to change the settings by following the steps mentioned below to Change keyboards.

  • Go to Settings
  • Now from the settings, tap on Language & Input option
  • Tap on Current Keyboard
  • Here select Gboard option in the Pop-up window
  •  Now tap on Choose Keyboards
  • Here Disable all the other keyboards and just select Gboard

Method 4 – Uninstall Updates:

In some cases, the Error has been seen to pop-up when there was a new update if there was an unstable update it will lead to the compatibility issue. In such cases where there is a bug with the new update, you need to uninstall the update to Gboard app and roll back to the previous version of the app.

  • Go to Settings
  • Now tap on Apps or Applications
  • Select Gboard app
  • Now tap on the Three dot icon on the top right corner of the screen
  •  Now select Uninstall updates option

These are the most commonly used solutions which have been found useful to fix this Error. This is a simple error which can be fixed easily without any major changes needed.
