How to Fix “Can’t take screenshot due to limited storage space” Issue
This post depicts a way to fix the issue or Error (message below) faced when trying to take a screenshot on your android smartphone.
“Can’t take screenshot due to limited storage space, or it isn’t allowed by the app or your organisation”
Users have reported this issue even though enough storage space was available in their device (which can be verified by opening the settings icon and looking in the storage feature). A screenshot or the screen capture is a feature provided by almost all the smartphones nowadays to capture the current screen as a JPEG picture. Different phones have different ways to capture the screenshot. Most have them have this option listed in the power menu (i.e. options which are shown on holding the power key) while on the other phones a screen shot can be clicked by clicking on the power key and volume rocker key at once.
Before going to the solution for this issue, I want to point out that some of the apps (for example banking apps), don’t let you capture the screenshot while you have the app opened as the active application. If that is the issue you are facing, we suggest you to have to install a third party screenshot app like “Screenshot ultimate” to make it work.
Now for the solution to fix this error:
- Open the file manager on your android cell phone
Most android phones are coming with a pre-installed file manager apps. If your don’t find one on your phone, download any file management app from the play store (example : ES File Explorer). - Now scroll until you find a folder called as “Pictures”
- Rename the folder called Pictures to “Pictures2”
Can be done by holding on the pictures folder and a popup option appears asking you to rename the document
OR play around with the options until you find this option. - And you are done. Try taking a screen shot and verify if the solution worked.
- If that doesn’t seem to fix the issue, try restarting your phone and retry it.
Note: We suggest you to later enter in recovery mode and delete the “Pictures2” folder from the files manager.
For those who didn’t understand what I just said in the above line, Ignore it as it is not a mandatory step.
Well, thanks for going through this solution for your issue and I really hope that it had helped you. If you have any other working solution which you have used to fix this issue, do share with us (in the comments section) so that it will be helpful for users facing this error.
Finally found a working solution thanks a lot
thanks a ton. It worked. Simple solution. I was breaking my head over this.
It’s totally worked. Thank you so much!
Thanks for this solution but can you explain WHY merely renaming a folder fixes this problem? Sounds like an odd manifestation of a bug. Just curious.
It might be because of the cache which makes it believe that there is no enough space in the system.
Thank it works
big thx man, it was pain in a** for past many days..
Its work
It is not working . How to do this . Please someone help me . I really need help
Thanx a ton man….was trying like a fool to capture a bank statement from an app.

I connected my phone to my laptop and did the name change from there, and problem solved! Thanks! I accidentally broke it reformatting my SD card and was scared I’d never be able to screenshot again!
Thank you so much buddy. I can’t believe it worked. 😍😍
Thankyou it works
Thankzzz a lot..it worked out for me..
Did not work for me 🙁 What else can I do? Thanks!
Factory reset seems to be the only option, make sure to back up all the data on your phone and factory reset your device.
Thanks ..it’s really works.
In my case it was DCIM->Screenshots to screenshots2.
This file had 2 0kb pics.
For me DCIM->Screenshots to screenshots2 😃
Thanks a lot. It helps
Thanks …..worked beautifully

I have been breaking my head past soo many days.
Finally.. things working fine..
it works….thanks for help !!!!!!!!!!
Thanks it worked !
I tried this, it worked for once, and then again the same problem 🙁
Won’t deleting pictures2 delete all my photos as well? Should I take a backup of that folder first?
Yes, taking a backup is the safe option
Tried renaming, and it says “task failed” 🙁 any help??
It worked Thank you very much
Thanx man. Anyway I tried clearing cache of Gallery app and tried capturing screenshot. Voila !! it worked like a charm.
Thanks bro
Thank you bro
For myself, this did not resolve my issue. How I corrected this was:
SETTINGS / STORAGE / and there I saw the SD Card that was not Mounted. I just Unmounted the card, then Mounted it back, and all is working for me!!!
Moto G4 Plus (16GB) + 128GB External
For some reason, my phone has an issue that I can not Mount my SD Card as INTERNAL??? It ERRORS that my Ultra Fast (Lexar Professional 633x SDHC/SDXC UHS-I) is too slow!!! – So, when it is installed this way, when I take a photo it takes 3 seconds to process the image, vice like a micro second OR rapid fire if I hold the shutter button on! Wow, Really? So, my card is mounted as External, and I am able to take rapid fire pictures with my card now.
P.S. The Super Geeks at my provider (SaskTel), were totally stumped with this! I went to 3 SaskTel stores in Saskatoon to have this addressed, and here I figured it out on my own! Go figure…
So, a Factory Reset is NOT the only other option, as others mention here and elsewhere on the internet! Sometimes a little investigation (Troubleshooting) is all that is needed.
Super thanks
Thanks so muchh.
It worked! Thank you so much!
When I tried to change it, it says Failed to rename. I still can’t take screenshots.. What do I do..?? Please. .help..
Yipee!! It worked hahaha… When I renamed the file as instructed and I did a screenshot it didn’t work and then I rebooted my phone like you said and it finally work, now I can go back to doing my screenshot…you guyz are the best, never seen a solution so easy and active. Thanks much love for you here
Thanks a lot…it really worked!
Another thanks. Seems to have worked for me. I did recreate the directory structure after renaming. (I.E. I made a new Pictures and a new Screenshots within Pictures.) Maybe restarting would have negated the need for this, not sure.
Thank you so much. Was trying to fix this error on my mom’s phone, your post was the first one I found. Worked wonders.
Happy to help 🙂
It didn’t work for me is there another way for a Mobicel Cosmo tab?
Went through everything, all of my files, all of the inner settings- And I still can’t find the ”Pictures” Option. Is there anything else I can do? I can’t take screenshots, or download things.
Reset factory settings.then solve this problem.
So if the rebame option is greyed out not letting me change the name what do I do then?
thanks a lot. It really worked!
It wouldn’t even let me rename the folder. It goes through the motions, but it’s still Pictures when I’m done. Phone is Moto E4 Plus XT1775.
It doesn’t give me an option to rename the “pictures” folder I can select it and pull up the actions I can do but it doesn’t allow me to rename the folder. I have a ZTE.
Thank you ! work like a charm
Got an error telling me it could not rename the folder. So it didn’t work for me like it did everyone else.
salve vorrei sapere come posso evitare che durante una video chiamata mi venga fatto lo screen shot grazie
