With the Full screen display craze catching up, Xiaomi who until recently had capacitive touch buttons below the display had to remove the chin at the bottom and replace them with on screen touch buttons like every other smartphone manufacturer. The Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro started the Full screen display with 18:9 ratio design in Xiaomi launched in February. If you are someone who does not like the On screen menu options and want to remove them, Xiaomi has made sure that you get an option called “Full Screen Gestures” which lets you to remove the menu buttons from the bottom of the screen and replace them with gesture controls.
The Full Screen Gesture controls option has been seen in devices running on MIUI 9.5 ROM which was released to MI MIX 2 back in January. The MIUI 9.5 OS update has started rolling out to devices like Mi MIX 2, Redmi Note 5 Pro, Redmi Note 5 and Redmi 5 all of which come with Full Screen or 18:9 aspect ratio displays. If you are having any one of these devices you can try this feature of removing the buttons and use gestures.
Steps to Enable Full Screen Gestures in Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus:
Note: Make sure that your device is updated to the latest MIUI 9.5 update
Step 1: Go to Settings on any of the above mentioned smartphones
Step 2: Now under System & Devices you can see Full Screen Display option, tap on it
Step 3: In the Full Screen Display page, you can see two options with images – Buttons and Full screen gestures. Tap on Full Screen Gestures option to enable it.
Step 4: You will be seeing a tutorial on how to use the gestures, follow the steps and you will be done. To Go Back – Swipe Left or Right, Home – Swipe from the bottom to top, Open Recent tabs– Swipe from the Bottom and pause or hold.
On Full Screen displays having the navigation buttons at the bottom takes up some screen space and I personally would like to get rid of them to enjoy the complete display experience. Do try out this and let us know
