How to Delete iPhone Backups from iMac and Macbook

In general Macbooks and iMacs come with limited SSD storage space which can be quite bothersome in some cases when you need to store more data on your Laptop or iMac. To free up some valuable space you can delete your iPhone backup files which usually take up a lot of space in your Macbook or iMac. It is a very costly affair to upgrade your storage in your Macbook and it certainly is better to either get an external hard disk or to free up space by deleting old back up files from your device.

Doing a complete Backup of your iPhone from time to time lets your restore your device completely in case something goes wrong with your iPhone. Let us look at the steps which will let you delete the old stored iPhone Backup files from your Macbook or iMac.

Steps to Delete iPhone Backup files from Macbook or Mac:

There are three methods by which you can delete old iPhone Back up files from your Macbook or iMac.

  1. Delete iPhone Backup file from Backup Folder on Macbook or iMac
  2. Delete iPhone Backup on Macbook or iMac using Finder
  3. Delete iPhone Backup on Macbook using Spotlight Search

Delete iPhone Backup file from Backup Folder on Macbook or iMac

  1. Click on the Finder Icon on your Macbook
  2. Now click on Go located in the menu bar on top of the screen and select Go to Folder
  3. A window – Go to the Folder: is seen, you need to type ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/ should be entered and click on Go
  4. Now the iPhone Backup folder can be seen and you can see all the backup files list here.
  5. Select the iPhone Backup files you want to delete and Right-click on the selected list and click on Move to Trash option.

Delete iPhone Backup on Macbook or iMac using Finder:

  1. Connect your iPhone or iPad to your MacBook
  2. Now click on the Finder icon
  3. Now your iPhone box will open and you need to click on your iPhone icon in the left-pane
  4. Now click on the Manage Backups option
  5. Here you need to select the backup which you want to delete and click on Delete Backup button at the bottom of the box.

You are done, the selected Backup file will be deleted from your Macbook or iMac storage.

Delete iPhone Backup on Macbook using Spotlight Search

Spotlight search is the Search option available for the whole Macbook which can be accessed by clicking on the magnifying glass option in the notification bar at the top of the display.

  • Click on the Search Icon at the top right corner of the screen or press Command + Space Bar together to open Spotlight using the keyboard shortcut.
  • Now Copy and Paste this – ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/ in the Search bar and press Enter
  • You will now see the list of iPhone Backups, Select the files which you want to delete and right-click on it and click on Move to Trash option.

You are done, you have successfully deleted the iPhone Backup files stored on your Macbook to release some much-needed space in your device.
