The most common problem many iPhone users face is lack of storage space which prevents users from installing new apps or taking videos and photos or even facing problem while updating apps. This problem is due to the data which is accumulated by every App as you use it, this is called as Cache and Data in Android users and the same is termed as “Documents and Data” in iOS for iPhone and iPad. We have seen in some cases that the Documents and Data is several hundreds of MB mostly in cases of Apps which are related to Photo sharing and Videos such as Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook etc.
Documents and Data is the collection of all the app cache, sign-in, history, saved photos / videos and other app related stuff which are saved in your device storage space overtime. Most of the stuff which is stored in the Documents and Data folder is not that important apart from the important stuff like the sign-in details etc. So to clear valuable storage space in your iPhone or iPad to either install new apps or take photos and videos, you can clear the “Documents and Data” folder for each app.
The other option is to clear the History and cache by logging in into the specific App. These methods mentioned are useful for the following devices – iPhone 4s, 5c, 5s, 6, 6s, 7 and 7s along with iPads running on iOS 10.
How to Delete Documents and Data on iOS for iPhone and iPad:
Unlike in Android where you have an option to directly clear Cache and Data from each application or from all the apps at a time, iOS does not allow this and you have only one option – to delete the App which is taking up more space in Documents and Data. It is important to check apps which you feel are taking up more space by following the steps mentioned below.
Go to Settings and then tap on General
Now tap on Storage & iCloud Usage
Under storage you have to select Manage Storage
Now you will be seeing the list of Apps installed on your iPhone and iPad
From the list you have to tap on Apps which you feel will be taking up most storage space such as Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook etc.
Tap on any one of such apps and you will see the amount of storage space taken up by “Documents & Data” If you feel it is taking up a lot of space
Tap on the Delete App option at the bottom of the page
You can Delete the app from App Store as well but with this process the users will be able to check the amount of space taken up by Documents & Data and then decide if the app should be deleted or not. You can now follow the same process with all the apps which you feel are taking up more storage space.
Now go to App store and install all the apps which have been deleted earlier on to your device. As iOS does not allow the user to delete the cache and data separately for each App the only option left to delete the accumulated Data for each app is to delete and re install the application.
