WhatsApp has updated their Mute option with a new settings giving you the option to permanently or Always mute notifications for a user or Group. It has termed the new update as “Always” mute chat feature. Earlier there used to be three time frames for which you could mute any user or Group you are a member of – 8 Hours, 1 Week and 1 year. This has now been replaced 8 Hours, 1 Week and Always.
This is a really useful feature particularly to mute certain family groups where all you keep getting are Good Morning messages and some random political forwards which can become a big headache. So having this feature now helps in permanently muting any notification of any message or forward you might be getting in these groups or for any person. Let us look how you can activate this option on Android and iPhone.
Steps to Mute User or Group by activating ‘Always‘ option on Android:
Launch WhatsApp application on your iPhone
Tap and Hold on the Group or User you want to Mute, you also select multiple users or groups to mute at a time by just tapping on the chat
Once selected you will be seeing a Mute option on top of the Display
Tap on it and you will be seeing the Pop-up window with the time frames – 8 Hours, 1 Week and Always
Tap on Always and you will be Muting all the notifications from the user, group or multiple selections always.
Steps to Mute User or Group by activating ‘Always‘ option on iPhone:
Open WhatsApp on your iPhone or iPad
Open the User or Group Chat you wish to Mute permanently
Now Go to Options
Then you can see the Mute option, tap on it
From the Pop-up window tap on Always option and you are done
This is a pretty useful feature and helps in keeping your phone from not ringing from useless notifications all the time. We can follow the same steps to Unmute any Group or User Chat easily.
