How to Activate or Enable Youtube Dark mode

There are very few people who will not be liking dark backgrounds for viewing any online stuff, and when it comes to Youtube, which has always had a white background viewing in the built-in Dark mode for the website makes the videos stand out and reduces the strain on your eyes while browsing as the distractions are less visible. You do not have an outright button or toggle option to activate Dark Mode in Google as it is still in testing phase. So if you want to try out the Youtube Dark Mode, you need to play around with the developer’s console, make sure you follow the steps properly.

How to Activate and Use Youtube Dark Mode

Steps to Activate and Use Youtube Dark Mode:

Note: The tutorial is for viewing Youtube in Dark mode on the Website through browser for Windows or Mac users and not the App for Android or iOS. We will be updating about the Apps shortly.

Step 1: Launch any browser on your Laptop or PC, be it Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Opera etc.

Step 2: Now go to Youtube website homepage, now for Windows users – Press Ctrl+Shift+I and for Mac users – Option+Command+I to open the developer menu.

Step 3: Now go to the “Console” tab and you need to enter the code mentioned below into it – (Copy paste the code directly as it is)

document.cookie=”VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=fPQ4jCL6EiE; path=/”

Step 4: Hit Enter to enable the code and you will be seeing a new line with the same quoted section from the code which you have entered.

Step 5: Now close the console or developers window and Refresh the Youtube Tab in browser

Step 6: Now click on the Profile Icon (on the top right of the browser)

Step 7: From the Drop down menu click on “Theme” which will be set in Light and you have to select the option “Dark” in the options

You are done, Youtube website in your browser will be seen with a black background and you can have a soothing viewing experience without having much strain on your eyes. After using it for a couple of days, one this I observed is for night time or in low light viewing, the white background used to give a lot of strain to my eyes, but with the dark background, it is quite comforting.
