Honor 7X vs Xiaomi Mi A1 – Comparison and Differences

Honor the brand from Huawei has launched their latest mid-range smartphone, the Honor 7x at an event in London. The device is the successor to their most popular Honor 6x. The mid-range segment is becoming competitive by the day with devices like Xiaomi Mi A1 already in the market with some amazing specifications and features like Dual rear camera and having Stock Android OS. With devices like these, the mid-range is getting competitive and is no less in comparison to the Flagships.

If you are in the market for a mid-range smartphone, no smartphones come close to these two devices, the Honor 7x and the Mi A1. So let us look in detail, how these two devices fare against each other being priced almost identical.

Specifications Comparison between Honor 7x vs Xiaomi Mi A1:

Display and Build:

  • Honor 7x: 5.9-inch IPS LCD 18:9 ratio display with resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels
  • Xiaomi Mi A1: 5.5-inch IPS LCD display with resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels

In terms of Display, the Honor 7x outshines the Xiaomi Mi A1 by a big margin. The 18:9 aspect ratio and the huge 5.9-inch display in a similar sized body as the Mi A1 is surely impressive. The build quality of both the devices is good. The Honor 7x is the one to go for if you are looking for a big display with small size body.


The Honor 7x is powered by their own Octa-core Kirin 659 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM. The Xiaomi Mi A1 is powered by a Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor with similar 4GB RAM. Both the devices performed well on testing, but on paper, the Snapdragon 625 is the more powerful of the two and when coupled with Stock Android OS in Mi A1, it wins this segment easily.


Both devices come with a Dual Rear camera set up, the Honor 7x sports a 16MP rear camera with 2MP secondary camera and an 8MP front-facing camera.  The Xiaomi Mi A1 comes with two 12MP sensors for the dual rear camera set up with one being a telephoto lens and the other is a wide angle lens. The front camera is a 5MP shooter.

On paper and in real life usage the Xiaomi Mi A1 is the winner in the Camera segment, it performs well in all lighting conditions, the Honor 7x struggles in low light conditions. The Mi A1 is the one to go for if you are looking for a smartphone with a good camera.


Outright we can say that the Xiaomi Mi A1 is the winner here, thanks to the Stock Android OS and the fact that it is launched under the Google Android program which makes it clear that it will be receiving regular OS updates and will be updated to Android Oreo soon.

The Honor 7x comes with Android 7.0 Nougat with EMUI 5.1 on top, not that it is bad but stock android is the one to go if you wish to see your device run smooth and fluidly over time. Honor 7X will be receiving the Android Oreo update as well, but it might not be getting the Android P update which Google has announced that Xiaomi Mi A1 will be receiving.


the Honor 7X sports the bigger 3340mAh battery in comparison to the 3080mAh battery in the Mi A1. Both phones lasted for a full day usage without much problem for the short period of time that we tested both the devices.


The Honor 7x is priced at Rs. 12,999 for the 32GB storage variant while the 64GB storage variant is priced at Rs. 15,999 which is very competitive. The Xiaomi Mi a1 was priced initially at Rs. 14,999 but has been decreased to Rs. 12,999 after the launch of Honor’s 7x. This brings both the devices at the same price point.

Conclusion – Which is better Honor 7x or Xiaomi Mi A1?

The Honor 7x carries the look and feel of 2017 design with minimal bezels and edge-to-edge display having 18:9 aspect ratio in comparison to the huge bezels on the Xiaomi Mi A1. When it comes to performance, camera, and OS the Xiaomi Mi A1 is the one to go for. With both devices being priced similarly if you are looking for Stock Android OS and a better camera go for the Xiaomi Mi A1 but if you are looking for better display, good battery life, and great design the Honor 7X is the one to go for.

It comes down to personal opinion to choose between the two devices, with both devices being great in all aspects we can suggest that whichever device you go for you will not be disappointed.
