Asus Zenfone AR with 8GB RAM and support for Google Tango and Daydream launched

Asus has taken the smartphone game a little further by introducing a smartphone with an insane RAM of 8GB, when just last year everyone were thinking is 6GB of RAM required in a smartphone. With 8GB of RAM Asus is aiming at the AR or Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality platform which the smartphone is equipped for – Google Tango and Daydream. With this, the Zenfone AR becomes the first smartphone to sport 8GB of RAM. Alongside the Zenfone AR was another device, the second generation Zoom device – Zenfone 3 Zoom at CES 2017 in Las Vegas.

This is the second device which supports Google Tango joining the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro which was first smartphone to do so. Daydream is a virtual reality platform built into Android 7.0 Nougat which gives the device option to use both AR and VR.

What is Google Tango: It is an AR or augmented reality platform which takes the help of camera, gyroscope and accelerometer to estimate six degree of freedom motion tracking giving the device the ability to track 3D motion of a device while simultaneously creating a map of the surroundings.

  • RAM and Storage: 6GB / 8GB LPDDR4 RAM and storage option os 32GB / 64GB / 128GB and 256 GB UFS 2.0 type internal storage which can be expandable using microSD card
  • Camera: 23MP rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, Sony IMX318 sensor, 6P Largan lens, f/2.0 aperture, 4-axis OIS, EIS and Laser AF and an 8MP front-facing camera, f/2.0 aperture, 85-degree wide angle lens
  • OS: Android 7.0 Nougat with Zen UI 3.0
  • Connectivity: 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac5 GHz 2×2 MIMO, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS and USB Type-C

A fingerprint sensor is located in the Home button on the front of the device and the camera set up on the back is surely a good looking and sophisticated set up. The Asus Zenfone AR will be available in Black color having leather finish and is said to be available from Q2 2017. There is no word on the pricing of the device.
