Asus which made it clear with the Zenfone series that it is going to bring out some amazing devices has come out with yet another aggressively priced feature rich smartphone called the Zenfone 2. This announcement was made in CES 2015 by pricing the device to compete with companies like OnePlus, Xiaomi and other similar devices.
Coming to the features the Zenfone 2 comes with a 5.5 inch 1080p display which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and has IPS technology. The device is being launched as two variants with difference in processor, internal storage and RAM and priced differently as well. From the design point of view the volume rockers in the device are placed on the back of the device below the Camera much like the LG devices and with this the device measures just 3.9 mm in the edges and 10.9 mm in the center.
- Zenfone 2 Base Model comes with Intel Z3560 at 1.8 GHz, with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage
- Zenfone 2 Top Models comes with Intel Z3580 at 2.3 GHz, with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage
The 4GB RAM in the top model of Zenfone 2 in first of its kind in a smartphone and Asus is surely taking the competition head on with this device. The Zenfone 2 comes with Dual SIM card slot and a MicroSD card slot to expand memory further. It comes with 13 megapixel rear or primary camera and a 5 megapixel front facing camera. The device runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop with Zen UI layered over it.
The Primary camera has Dual LED flash and Dual tone to help capture more natural looking colors and Optical Image Stabilisation is also available. With the f/2.0 aperture speed and the presence of PixelMaster technology which we have seen in the earlier model low light photography is going to be an added advantage for this device.
The device comes with a 3000 mAh battery which is an upgrade from the previous model and good one too. It also comes with quick charge capability to help charge the device from 0% to 60% in just 39 minutes. The Zenfone 2 is available in all the colors which were available in the earlier model – Osmium Black, Sheer Gold, Glacier Gray, Glamor Red and Ceramic White. The brushed metal finish is what I love the most giving it a premium feel and look overall.
Coming to the availability of the device it is said to be available for purchase from 2nd Quarter of 2015 and is being priced at $199 for the base model and expected to be pricing at $299 for the top end model. If this is true then this will be most sort after device in this price range and the likes of Xiaomi and OnPlus should start producing some great products to compete with this device.
